Colombia has become one of the world's most popular destinations since the pandemic, particularly with the digital nomad community who have decided Medellin is one of the best spots in the world to work remotely from!

But besides the endless nomad cafe's of the cities, Colombia also has months & months worth of amazing adventures to be had!

The Basics.png

Currency & Cost

  • Colombia uses the Colombian Peso (COP).  At the time of writing $1USD got you around 3,785COP

  • On the whole Colombia is pretty cheap to travel - food and transport can both be very affordable

  • Colombia still has very reasonable accommodation costs if you're budget travelling, but you can also find some boujee hostels these days with a higher price tag - particularly for private rooms

Climate & When to Visit

  • Colombia has a rainy season and a dry season - on the Caribbean coast it seems rainy season starts around late April and lasts until June.  There is another rainy season later in the year around October.

  • The weather in Bogotá is pretty consistent all year round with an average temperature of around 15 degrees.  It also rains a lot in the city due to its altitude.

  • Medellín is known as 'the city of eternal spring' thanks to its even early 20 degree climate day in day out!  The rain is very predictable in the city as it rolls in from the surrounding mountains around 3.30pm each day.

Culture & Safety

  • The language of Colombia is Spanish - it is said the Spanish of Bogotá and Medellín is the easiest to understand and the best to learn thanks to it's clarity and smoothness

  • Colombia is a majority Catholic country like most of Latin America

  • Colombia is, for the most part, pretty safe.  The biggest issues facing a tourist are pick-pocketing or armed robbery in the streets (guns or knives).

Other

  • As a European or American you receive a 90 day visa on arrival to Colombia
